If you're paid by two employers at the same time, each one deducts tax on its own salary as if it were your only income. But tax is due on your total salary, so at the end of the year you pay the difference yourself.
How big is the gap? (2026-27)
| Two salaries (a month) | Deducted by both employers separately (a year) | Real tax on total income | Still to pay with your return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rs 60,000 + Rs 50,000 | Rs 1,200 | Rs 19,200 | Rs 18,000 |
| Rs 100,000 + Rs 80,000 | Rs 9,600 | Rs 111,600 | Rs 102,000 |
| Rs 150,000 + Rs 120,000 | Rs 104,400 | Rs 326,000 | Rs 221,600 |
Each employer gives you the benefit of the lower slabs separately, while on your total income you only get it once.
What to do
- Tell one employer about your other salary, so it deducts on your total income.
- Or put the difference aside each month and pay it with your return.
- Include both employers' deduction certificates in your return.
