Gratuity in Pakistan pays 30 days' wages for every completed year, and a leftover part of more than 6 months counts as a full year. So a few days' difference in your leaving date can be worth a whole month's pay.
Started 1 March 2022, Rs 90,000 a month
| Last day | Service | Years counted | Gratuity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-31 | 4 y 5 m 30 d | 4 | Rs 360,000 |
| 2026-09-01 | 4 y 6 m 0 d | 4 | Rs 360,000 |
| 2026-09-02 | 4 y 6 m 1 d | 5 | Rs 450,000 |
| 2027-02-28 | 4 y 11 m 27 d | 5 | Rs 450,000 |
In the second row service is 4 years and exactly 6 months, which isn't more than 6 months, so only 4 years count. Leave one day later (third row) and 5 years count.
Before you resign
- Take your joining date from your appointment letter, not from memory.
- Your last day of service is the last day of your notice period; count to that.
- Employers with a provident fund may pay under their own scheme instead of gratuity; check your contract.
